LIFESCAPE - A PHOTOGRAPHIC DOCUMENTARY

FORUM
LIFESCAPE
, A photographic documentary with a group exhibition is a congregation of visual artists/photographers/educators with a common passion for life, beauty, and photography, with each bringing an idiosyncratic interpretation of our own existence called ‘life’. The artists consciously demonstrate how ‘life’, a single subject, can be deciphered in a broad perspective through inquisitive and creative experimentation channelled by each artist’s passion and inclination.

‘Lifescape’ is an impression, expression, and interpretation of life by five visual artists/ photographers/ educators through the camera lens, each artist exploring from the literal, indicative, abstract, and surreal manifestation of life. The subject matters that are delved into are: (a) Life - the human experience (b) Life’s adornment - flora and fauna, (c) Street life - capturing a slice of life in urban outdoor environment, (d) Still life - insinuation of life through man-made object of architectural structures, and (e) Life’s intimation – street portraiture.

SYED OSMAN SYED YUSOFF

Syed Osman Syed Yusoff explores the absence but indication of life through the needs of man for daily existence. An empty corridor, stairways or windows are subtle indicators of human existence. By celebrating the ordinary, the artist forces the viewer to see beauty within everyday objects, while tweaking the images to disrupt the orientation of viewers.

CHE' AHMAD

Che Ahmad Azhar Fadhil immerses imperceptibly into the hustle and bustle of life in the street. With patience, perseverance, and impeccable sense of timing, the artist captures and freezes subliminal and sometimes haunting actions and moments of human activity: A neutral onlooker presenting a vista of human demeanour without opinion or judgment.

SAILOR SALLEH

Sailor Salleh observes the macro and micro view of providence, embellishment, and beauty through nature’s gift to life in flora and fauna. Sharing and reminding of us of little wonders we so often overlook or ignore. Seeing through amazement and admiration for the subject, the artist shares a different viewpoint to nature with dexterous interplay of composition, light, and colour.

ZAFFWAN IDRIS

Muhammad Zaffwan Idris celebrates the intricacies in the coming of age in the life of a typical human, the ventual progression of growing up, graduations, weddings, and starting a family. An observer capturing life’s brief passing moment of triumph and happiness through the lens. The artist further challenges himself by choosing to communicate emotion using silhouettes, devoid of any facial expression.

MUSTAFFA AHMAD / TAPA OTAI

Mustaffa Ahmad delves in story telling via street portraiture, capturing life story through signs and blemishes that are revealed in portraits. Venturing to the city streets and back alleys, the artist captures emotions and expressions so vividly, forcing the audience to be face to face with the subjects and inevitably share their moods and sentiments.
